Today's 255 took scavenger hunts and put a unique technological twist on them. We got in groups and had to use QR readers on our smartphones in order to get the next clue. The hunt took Max, Kim, Emily, and I all over park center going back and forth to find the letters. The letters unscrambled to spell "Red Dragons."
I think scavenger hints can be very effective in classes. You touch on the affective domain by have them working with teammates to figure out the problem. I works the cognitive domain by trying to think and figure out the clues in the hunt
About Me
- Justin Nassivera
- My name is Justin Nassivera and I am currently in my Junior year at SUNY Cortland studying Physical Education. I'm a huge sports fan and love my Boston Celtics and Red Sox. Basketball, Baseball, and Golf are huge passions of mine and would love to coach them someday in the school setting. I have always loved teaching and coaching kids and have always wanted to become a PE teacher because it was always my favorite class in school. Many people have strong opinions against physical education and I believe that myself and other physical educators need to spread the word of what exactly we are doing in the PE world. I Dance
Friday's 255 class was an enjoyable one. We were in the exergame lab and we got to play around with the new idance system. It was awesome! I've never played DDR before or anything like it so this was a new experience for me. I think that something like this would be great in a PE class because it not only a good workout, but it requires students to have to think about what they are doing and translate it from the screen to their feet. The only downside to using this in class is the cost. It is a very expensive system and not many schools have the necessary budget to afford it.

Teaching Styles
Today in 255, we went over a couple different styles of teaching for lab D. I have been assigned to use Guided Discovery as my teaching style. This style allows me to have the students figure a few things out on their own. This also is good because it makes the students think about what they are going to have to do.
I'm excited to teach lab D and can't believe that it is already here upon us. It's my last chance to really go out and perform to the best of my abilities and to show everyone what I got!

Ultimate Stacking
Friday in 255, we started class up in the gymnasium. Professor Yang gave us some great feedback based on what he saw in our last class playing ultimate. He introduced us to the concept of "stacking." Stacking is similar to setting up an in bounds play in basketball. It allows the team to create space and get open for the thrower. We setup a game-like drill to practice with both offense and with defense to practice the stacking. It was definitely easier to score when we participated in a full game by using the stacking method.
After we went back down to the classroom and continued our lab D discussions. I learned that the most important thing is to make sure that our objectives, cues, feedback, and our assessment are all consistent. That means that when we create our objectives and cues, our feedback and assessments must be cue specific so that it makes it easier for our students to understand exactly what they are to be doing.

Technology in PE
Today I 255, we were in the classroom discussing our lab D assignments. We then relocated to the lab. Inside the lab we saw all of the cool technological devices you could use as a physical educator. One was an exercise bike that connected to the Playstation 2. The faster you pedaled, the faster your car would move in the game. We also saw the Wii equipment along with all of the DDR pads used by many of the students here when teaching.

Discussing Lab D
After a week off from having 255 we got right back into the swing of things today. We started with an intense game of ultimate frisbee. We followed that up my discussing lab d. I have been assigned to teach table tennis. I am extremely confident heading into this lab unlike the other labs I have done in the past.

Shinty
Today's lab C lessons were about the Scottish game Shinty. David, Trish, and Stephanie all taught today. I thought they all did a very good job with their progressions and the activities they planned for us. Trish's visual aid was pretty cool because it had a moving pendulum with it to help explain our swinging motion that we needed to use.
Now that lab C is over, our focus turns over towards lab D. I'm looking forward to getting out there and teaching again.
